Redoing the deck began as an idea due to the poor shape of the one that was with the house. The stairs shook everytime Blizzard went up or down, and the area underneath was a swampy mess. We had plans drawn up and got bids from lots of people about the work. In January, we began "construction." Of course, it turned out to be more than a deck. We added a shed and sunroom too. The history of those builds is included with the deck construction.

Our first step was to tear down the old deck. We spent one weekend removing decking, rails, and joists. Our thanks to Carol and Mike who gave up a weekend to help with our destruction.

Chris shows what we have achieved in one short day.

Our Old Deck

Chris begins the next day with cutting down the joists.

Our Old Deck

Shortly, we are left with posts standing and nothing touching the house.

Our Old Deck

Chris makes short work of getting these to the ground thanks to the chain saw, and so he celebrates.

And in the meantime, Niki removes nails from the boards!
